J. Nics might not be the only up-and-coming rapper to ever do a song called "Road to Riches," but he might be one of the only ones who's actually on it. The newest in a handful of tracks to leak from a forthcoming collaboration with busy Broward beatmaker Numonics titled Champion Rizla, "Road to Riches" is a summery smooth track with flowing strings and soulful chops that juxtapose nicely with Nics's throaty, Black & Mild's-with-cognac-type vocals.

His straightforward delivery and honest tone convey a real sense of authenticity, one that is greatly lacking among the overcrowded stables of post-Kanye, desperate-for-attention-style glam rappers out there right now tyrannizing blog space.

So while using an "it's a breath of fresh air" analogy here might be a tired adage in the annals of rap journalism, I still feel it's the most suiting one that comes to mind, so there. Look for more standout production from Numonics and mellow thuggin' bars from J. Nics on their Champion Rizla album due out February 1 on 2dopeboyz/DJBooth. And in the meantime, check the classy-meets-classic rap video visuals for "Road to Riches" courtesy of Miami photographer and videographer Unkleluc.
