Most of us have no idea what Cinco de Mayo is about -- its origins, reasons for celebrating, or what it even means. What we do know, however, is that it's another excuse to get plastered.

And that's cool. This is South Florida. We need no real reasons to get our drinking on.

What isn't cool, however, is drinking and then driving. It's not only dumb; it's dangerous.

So, in an effort to curb all the stupid, AAA is doing something pretty cool and offering -- even to non-AAA members -- a free ride to anyone who is drunk and can't drive home.

AAA is teaming with Bud Light in its Tow to Go program for the Cinco de Mayo weekend. It's asking anyone who is too hammered to drive to call any time between May 2 and May 5.

"If you plan to celebrate this holiday weekend, we strongly suggest that you have a plan for a designated driver before you have your first drink," said AAA's senior vice president of automotive services, Gerry Gutowski, via a news release.

The Tow to Go service will offer a confidential ride to both the inebriated driver and his vehicle to a safe location (within a ten-mile radius) all across Florida this weekend. It's free and available to both AAA members and nonmembers.

The offer is based on availability of tow trucks in the respective areas.

So if you find yourself a little too on the tipsy side this weekend, without a proper designated driver, give AAA a call and get home safe.

You call them at : 855-2-TOW-2-GO

Or 855-286-9246, if you're not into the whole spelling-words-out-on-the-phone thing.

Be safe out there, everyone.
