Four Broward County residents were arrested at a hotel in Elkridge, Maryland, after police there found evidence suggesting they were part of an identity-theft ring.
The arrests, which occurred August 10, were not without incident. The Columbia Flier reports that three of the suspects pulled up to the Best Western hotel but fled the moment police approached. Bridgette Marie Arendas, a 24-year-old woman from Lauderdhill, is alleged to have been driving the Infiniti that tried to outrun three police cars and run over a deputy in the process.
Lamisha Loffett, 33, of Fort Lauderdale and Jamie Frazier, 32, of Hollywood, allegedly were passengers in the car. A fourth suspect in the identity-theft ring, Wayne Curry, a 34-year-old man from Lauderhill, was arrested at the hotel.
Investigators believe the four had more than 100 victims in at least four states, including Florida. Among the items recovered in the hotel and car were $12,000 cash and multiple wigs.
