"America's Most Wanted" Tip Leads to Suspect's Arrest in 2004 Lauderhill Double Murder
Police say 36-year-old Omar Williams was traveling the country for seven years -- impregnating women and living off their money along the way -- after allegedly murdering his ex-girlfriend and her co-worker at a Lauderhill apartment complex in 2004.
Thanks to an armchair detective watching "America's Most Wanted," his run is over, the Broward Sheriff's Office announced today.
On October 8, 2004, police say Williams showed up to his ex-girlfriends apartment -- where he apparently wasn't too happy about one of her male co-workers being there, so he allegedly shot them both dead before skipping town.
What he was doing while he was on the run from the cops was a bit, uh, unique:
BSO Detective Frank Ilarraza tells New Times that Williams would go from place to place finding women, impregnate them, and live off their money until it was time for him to pack up and go.
It's not clear how many kids Williams actually produced while on the run, but Ilarraza says there are some in Jamaica, California, New York, Texas, and Florida.
It wasn't until seven years later -- while Williams was living in Texas -- when a tip came in to "America's Most Wanted," leading federal law enforcement officers to chase him across the county until his Wednesday arrest in Orlando.
Ilarraza says Williams copped to killing both his ex-girlfriend and her co-worker out of a jealous rage.
Williams will be transferred to the Broward County Jail on Sunday, police say, and is currently being held without bond.
