Another Boat From Bahamas Caught Smuggling Humans and Drugs Into Broward
Speeding through a manatee zone is no joke, especially if your boat is stuffed with weed and illegal aliens.
At the end of August, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission stopped a 24' boat operated by Ivan McCutcheon and Carrie Davis for speeding through a manatee zone in the intracoastal, near John U. Lloyd State Park out by Dania Beach.
When officers boarded the vessel they quickly found seven people crammed into the small cabin who were being smuggled into the U.S. Of the seven, two were Jamaican men who had previously been convicted of felonies in the U.S. and were deported.
The agents looked around a bit more and found 18 pounds of weed stuffed behind the cabin's wooden door. They also discovered more than $15,000 in cash.
Needless to say, McCutcheon and Davis were arrested and are now facing federal charges.
Davis claimed during interrogation that while she knew they were transporting people to the U.S., she didn't know they were that they were aliens. She also said that she smoked pot in the Bahamas but had no idea that there was 18 pounds of the stuff on the boat.
Broward court records show that McCutcheon, who kept silent during interrogation, has faced a few local felonies in the past, including charges of cocaine possession and grand theft.
>Earlier in August, two men from the Bahamas pleaded guilty to attempting to smuggle six people into the Florida, including a Jamaican man who had been deported from the U.S. after getting nailed on federal drug charges.
