Birther-ism apparently isn't dead, as Jerome Corsi -- head bullshitter of the Obama "fake birth certificate" movement -- has still found enough brain-dead people to believe that the president is a Muslim from Indonesia.
In Arizona, Stephen Lemons -- the Feathered Bastard of our sister paper in the desert, Phoenix New Times -- confirmed that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio assigned members of his "Cold Case Posse" to investigate the legitimacy of Obama's birth certificate, which was released by the White House in April.
Now, thanks to the Tea Party group Sarasota Patriots, Corsi will be in Southwest Florida on Wednesday to feed his conspiracy theory to his new pals, and he's reportedly meeting with another sheriff to get the same reaction as he did out of Arpaio.
Who exactly that Florida sheriff is seems to be a secret, as Corsi wouldn't drop a name during a brief phone conversation with the Pulp, but he'll apparently let us know who it is at some point.
We'd suspect that a Sarasota group hosting an event in Sarasota would imply that it's Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight, although an employee of the sheriff's public-relations crew says it's not him.
Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott -- who got quite a bit of attention for "playing the 'Hussein' card" by referring to the president by his full name at a Sarah Palin rally in 2008 -- tells the Pulp that it's definitely not him meeting with Corsi.
Even if Corsi were to schmooze him, Scott apparently doesn't want to join Arpaio on the cover of Globe magazine.
"I am aware of numerous investigations prior and present regarding the validity of President Obama's birth certificate, and I see no reason to dedicate resources to duplicative efforts," Scott says.
If you've already read all the research on Bigfoot and aliens, here's a few of the "arguments" presented in Corsi's book, which is constantly pimped out on the website he writes for, World Net Daily:
Obama was born a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and the United States, a circumstance the Constitution's framers considered an iron-clad roadblock to the presidency.
As a boy, Obama was officially registered in school as a Muslim and Indonesian citizen, another barrier to U.S. natural-born citizenship.
The press and blogosphere widely reported that Obama was born at Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu -- before deciding he was born across town at Kapi'olani Women's and Children's Hospital.
The Congressional Research Service, a public policy arm of Congress, officially admits no one in the government ever vetted Obama's constitutional eligibility.
In preparation for the 2012 election, more than a dozen states are considering legislation to force all presidential candidates to prove they are constitutionally qualified before they can be placed on that state's ballot.
Why wouldn't an elected law-enforcement official want his name associated with that?
We'll give you an update when Corsi reveals who it is he's supposed to be meeting.
