Bjarke Ingels, Marina Lofts Architect, To Appear at Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale Monday Night
Bjarke Ingels, the Danish architect responsible for designing the controversial Marina Lofts development, is set to make a presentation at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale Monday night.
The Fort Lauderdale development, which is basically a set of 36-story towers and one 25-story building with about 1,000 units, has come under fire recently over the 100-year-old rain tree that will be uprooted for make room for the high-rise.
The email statement announcing Ingels's appearance tonight says that the architect is "responsible for bringing world-class architecture to Fort Lauderdale." And calls the Marina Lofts project as "the hallmark of an Ingels creation - designs that are as programmatically and technically innovative as they are cost and resource conscious."
Ingels is expected to speak about how modern architecture can support the ideals of sustainability, culture and art.
We're guessing he won't be talking about how architecture supports the ideals of sustainability of majestic 100-year old rain trees.
Earlier this month, the city's Planning & Zoning Board recommended approval for the Marina Lofts development high-rise apartments. The Commission has yet to set a date to vote on it.
Meanwhile, Chris Brennan, a 33-year-old man who was fired from his Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi job for making a YouTube video about the quest to save the rain tree, has not publicly spoken about Marina Lofts since the Planning & Zoning Board made their recommendation.
Back in April, Brennan led a "Rain Tree Parade" with about 75 other people. They marched around holding signs that read, "Stop Marina Lofts" and "Save the Rain Tree."
Ingels is scheduled to speak at Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, at One E. Las Olas Blvd, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday night.
