It's news when a self-described "prominent neurosurgeon" is booked at the Broward County Jail on a felony charge of false imprisonment and misdemeanor battery on his girlfriend, but there's a peculiarity to this arrest that really puts it over the top.
From Gelbard's arrest report
Steven D. Gelbard
is a 54-year-old neurosurgeon who also specializes in pain management. He's also been named in several civil suits and has been accused of defaulting on his student loans. Gelbard was arrested on April 16 after deputies say he forcibly kept his girlfriend from leaving his apartment on North Ocean Boulevard in Pompano Beach and later threw her down on the ground, causing her minor injuries.
The blog Random Pixels initially reported
the arrest, but it's something in the BSO report that really catches the eye. Deputies listed Gelbard's complexion as an "Albino." I've seen several hundred arrest reports, and this is the first time I've seen that designation on an arrest.
But here's the thing -- Gelbard is not an albino. Inside, see his mug shot and the explanation that I've been able to get so far.
