Federal Agent Shoots Pompano Man's Car Over Road Rage Incident
A federal agent, apparently unhappy with the way a man was driving at the mall he was visiting, pulled out his gun and shot the man's car.
Seems like a legit and reasoned response.
The agent, Angel Echevarria, a Department of Homeland Security special agent assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service, was off-duty at the time of the shooting.
The shooting was apparently sparked over a dispute Echevarria had with 27-year-old Alla Juma, a Pompano Beach resident, when the two got into a heated argument in the parking lot.
Juma was picking up his wife at the Town Center at Boca Raton mall when the spat went down with Echevarria.
According to a Boca Raton police probable cause affidavit, the whole thing went down when Juma cut off Echevarria in his Toyota.
Echevarria honked his horn. Juma shot Echevarria the bird. Echevarria shot Juma's Toyota.
Juma's cutting off the agent resulted in Echevarria crashing into another car. He followed Juma into the parking garage, pulled out his .40 caliber Sig Sauer and told the man he was a police officer.
Juma, not believing this story, drove off, apparently in fear of his safety, what with a guy walking up to him holding a gun and all.
Echevarria claims that as Juma sped off, he bumped into him and Mrs. Echevarria. That's when he fired a round at the Toyota, into the driver's side rear wheel well.
Mrs. Echevarria was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. No one else was injured.
On Wednesday, Echevarria surrendered at the Palm Beach County Jail.
He is facing three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
We're no experts on human psychology, but people need to cool it on the roads.
That or keep on settling their disputes like they did in the Old West. Either way.
