Hurricane Sandy: What's Closed, Canceled, Re-Scheduled and Operating in Broward-Palm Beach
That Hurricane Sandy is quite a nuisance.
Even though the storm is hitting Cuba and the Bahamas directly, she's still sending her winds and rain all over our faces. And, as it usually goes with these kinds of storms, rumors of cancellations, closings, and re-schedules run rampant.
So far, we've seen flights canceled from Ft. Lauderdale International airport, and Palm Beach County schools releasing their students early on Thursday (high-five, parents!).
But after the jump, we give you the scoop on all closings, openings, and re-schedulings going down in Broward and Palm Beach thanks to Sandy.
Broward County public schools: Public schools in Broward will be open for employees Friday, but students had the day off anyway because of Teacher Planning Day. However, after-school activities, outdoor activities and evening sporting events are all cancelled for Friday.
Fort Lauderdale Beach: The beach (from Southeast 24th to Lauderdale-By-The-Sea) is closed to the public as of Thursday.
Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show: Open and running, with some slight schedule changes.
Palm Beach County public schools: No school on Friday, and no after school or evening, sporting activities Friday.
The Head Start Program (Palm beach): All locations are closed on Friday for students, but employees are to report.
PalmTran buses: Will operate as normal Thursday and Friday.
The Diocese of Palm Beach: The Diocese's scheduled community event for Friday morning has been postponed and rescheduled for November 16.
Halloween Events: Thursday night's scheduled Halloween Hoe-Down in Deerfield Beach is cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy. Friday night's Halloween Safety Expo at Tequesta Trace Park has been cancelled. The city is planning to reschedule.
Airports: Ft. Lauderdale International Airport canceled flights to Kingston, Jamaica, Freeport, Nassau, Georgetown and Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Palm Beach International Airport canceled a flight to Marsh Harbor on Abaco Island in the Bahamas. (Contact your airlines, or the airport for more info)
Tri-Rail: Tri-Rail will operate as scheduled on Friday.
Cruise ships: Several cruise ships have altered their itineraries due to Sandy. You can check here for updates from all major cruise lines.
