They say that in every crisis, there's an opportunity. So it is with the Republican Party of Florida, scandalized by the sybaritic ways of its former chairman, Jim Greer, who's now facing charges of money laundering and fraud, a case that prompted a forensic audit of the party's books. And those same Republicans are anxious that one of their former stars, Charlie Crist, will cost them their chance at winning the U.S. Senate seat in 2010.
Maybe these two problems can solve each other. In a cunning maneuver, the Republicans are using the audit's findings to destroy the Crist campaign for Senate. The vignette about Crist and Greer taking a family trip to Disney World on the party dime is particularly destructive.
