LGBT Activists Stage Sit-In at Marco Rubio's Office
GetEQUAL, a national grassroots organization dedicated to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community, have organized a sit-in at the Tampa office of Senator Marco Rubio, to protest his stances on immigration reform and employment discrimination.
"The U.S. Supreme Court continues to deliberate over whether LGBT Americans have the constitutional right to marry via cases involving California's Proposition 8 and the federal Defense of Marriage Act," a statement from the group reads.
"However, despite poll after poll indicating that a majority of Americans support marriage equality, politicians like Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) continue to stand in the way of LGBT equality."
The sit-in is scheduled to begin at noon on Tuesday at Rubio's Tampa office (3802 Spectrum Boulevard, Suite 106)

The group says that protesters won't be leaving the site until Rubio declares his support for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and gives his promise that he'll stop pushing immigration reform further to the right.
"Most Americans believe that their LGBT friends, family, and neighbors should have equal rights under the law -- yet Senator Rubio keeps pushing our country backward," said Jarrod Scarbrough, GetEQUAL Florida State Lead. "Senator Rubio believes it's okay for me to be fired just because I am gay. As a resident of Florida and his constituent, I am ashamed of his position," said Scarbrough.
GetEQUAL hopes to call attention to Rubio's stances on LGBT equality.
"Senator Rubio is very simply on the wrong side of history. He has used same-sex couples as an excuse to walk away from an important piece of legislation. His cruel political moves show he is out of step with voters in our country," said Felipe Sousa-Rodriguez, Co-Director of GetEQUAL.
"Today's action symbolizes the beginning of our resistance against his bigoted stances and our commitment to shed light on the fact that he is holding immigrant families hostage who desperately need meaningful immigration reform to pass," said Sousa-Rodriguez.
