South Broward High School teacher Michael James Lunt was arrested for allegedly having sex with one his female students back in December, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

Lunt reportedly turned himself in Tuesday night at the Broward Sheriff's Main Jail.

The relationship appears to have been consensual.

However, the student is 16 years old.

The girl's mother had become aware of the inappropriate relationship when her daughter's behavior had suddenly changed.

According to the report from BSO, the mother was concerned that Lunt had used his position as an authority figure to coerce her daughter into a sexual relationship.

She then reported the relationship to authorities.

Broward County Public Schools spokeswoman Tracy Clark says that they are working with law enforcement officials, and have launched an administrative investigation against Lunt.

"The teacher will be reassigned away from students while the criminal and administrative investigations continue," Clark said.

After he turned himself in, Lunt was charged with one count of unlawful sexual activity with certain minors, which is a second-degree felony.

Anyone with information about other inappropriate behavior by Lunt is asked report it to Broward Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit Detective Ann Suter at (954) 321-4240.
