Mitt Romney wants people to think everything stinks and the world is falling apart. But Gov. Rick Scott, with all his talk about Florida improving, is getting in the way.
According to a story from Bloomberg today, "Scott, a Republican, was asked to say that the state's jobless rate could improve faster under a Romney presidency... [and] to tone down his statements heralding improvements in the state's economy because they clash with the presumptive Republican nominee's message that the nation is suffering under President Barack Obama."
A Romney adviser reportedly asked Scott to cool it with the optimism after his office released statements like the one last Wednesday that showed Florida unemployment is down 2.3 percentage points since Scott took office:
Wow! Hey, that doesn't look so bad! Quick, hide it. (Also, in case you missed it: When unemployment drops, Republican governors take credit, and Republican congressmen accuse Obama of faking the numbers. Everybody wins.)
