Rochelle E.B. Gilken gets the skinny on the new buyer's market for Super Bowl tickets. You had to know those $4,000 and $5,000 a seat prices couldn't last. Right now they're going for about $1,600 to $2,00o each on EBay That price should go down some over the next 24 hours, too.
I once had a Super Bowl ticket, back in 1994. There was some kind of in-house journalism contest at the newspaper I was working for at the time (News-Press) and I was given a prize for some dramatic deadline story I'd written on a traffic crash. The prize was a Super Bowl ticket. My wife (then girlfriend) was pregnant at the time and the game -- between the 49ers and Chargers -- didn't do much for me at all. I knew, like everybody else, that the 49ers and Steve Young were going to roll. So I drove to the stadium on Super Bowl Sunday and sold it for $600, and put the money (which seemed like a small fortune to me at that time) in a college fund for the tyke.
This game tomorrow, though, might be a classic. It's got football's premiere QB facing a stout defense, so I'd pay $600 this year, which is now face value.
After the jump: A Sad Day For Chicago
Here's what may be the single most idiotic Super Bowl Ebay auction/scheme of all time. You got to give them something for trying though:
"HELP US GET INTO SUPERBOWL XLI AND WE'LL ADVERTISE YOUR PRODUCT OR COMPANY LOGO ON OUR BODIES DURING THE ENTIRE TELEVISED GAME IN FRONT OF OVER 82,000,000 VIEWERS WORLDWIDE!!!
COMPARE THIS TO THE $2,600,000 IT WOULD COST YOU TO PURCHASE A THIRTY SECOND COMMERCIAL ON T.V.
ME AND THREE FRIENDS WILL ADVERTISE ON OUR BARE SKIN DURING THE GAME. IMAGINE THE EXPOSURE YOUR COMPANY OR PRODUCT WILL RECEIVE!!
KEEP IN MIND WE WILL USE THIS MONEY TO PURCHASE TICKETS TO THE SUPERBOWL SO PLEASE BID ACCORDINGLY. IN THE EVENT BIDDING DOESN'T REACH THE AMOUNT TO COVER (4) TICKETS TO SUPERBOWL XLI WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END AUCTION EARLY."
It ends "GO BEARS!"
High bid with little time left: 11 cents.
