Tennis Champ Serena Williams Chasing New Dream: Fingernail Artistry
Serena and her classmates
Nail school students aspire to paint the fingernails of international celebrities. But at the Palm Beach Nail School, those students are liable to spot a celebrity in the next desk. Serena Williams, who lives with her family in Palm Beach Gardens, is devoting part of her tennis offseason to studying at the school, on South Military Trail in West Palm.
On her celebrity blog page at GlobalGrind, Williams gushes like a kindergartner:
Today was my first day and boy was I excited! When I got there, they immediately had us do pedicures on each other. I wanted to make sure I did it just the way the real salons do it, so I began with asking the girl if she wanted any water to drink. I was so relieved when she said no, because honestly, I didn't have any to give her.
The post has pictures of Williams wearing scrubs and mingling with students in the bland environs of the nail school's classroom.
We'll see if her enthusiasm lasts. So far, Serena's got 3.5 hours done. And 236.5 left till graduation. "Don't be surprised if you hear about a part time job I've picked up at a local nail salon," chirps Williams. Sorry, but I will be surprised.
