Heres your quiz: What is a lost art? Its not basket weaving, marble carving, or silk-screening. The answer is hand stitching. Thats right: Your grandmas hand-stitched, framed Home, Sweet Home piece hanging by her door is beautiful, and we bet youve never taken the time to appreciate all the hard work that went into that wall gem. Take some time now. Time over. Why? Because we have to bitch about all that hard work now. On Saturday, help keep the bitching alive with the Girls Club, the female-nurturing, art non-profit, who not only know what goes into all the grueling needle work but dont want to lament alone. So theyve invited everyone to their Stitch n Bitch n Litsoiree. The event itself is to celebrate the art of hand stitching as well as art and literary inspiration. That means from 1 to 4 p.m. people will be on hand to provide technical assistance to hand-stitchers while theyre also being serenaded with live readings from local writers, including Denise Delgado, Jessica Machado, E. Parker Phillips, and Yaddyra Peralta. The events technically free but the Girls Club (117 NE Second St., Fort Lauderdale) is asking for a $5 donation to cover refreshment costs.
