The South Florida Boogie Woogie Piano Festival, a two-night celebration of the consonant piano blues style, has been migrating northward since it launched in Coral Gables in August 2010. Last year, it hit Fort Lauderdale in September, and this year, it's found residency at Delray Beach's Arts Garage, just in time for our brief late-autumn chill. Bob Wilder, a local legend in the boogie-woogie genre, will host live performances by four progenitors of the rollicking, vintage piano music, each showcasing a different incarnation: Jim McKaba's Chicago style, Tom Worrell's New Orleans style, Lee Pons' "Dr. John"-style blues, and Kelley Hunt's Deep South vocals. Stick around after the concerts for an "after-hours jam" with Wilder.
The festival begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Arts Garage, located at 180 NE First St. in Delray Beach. Tickets cost $25 to $35 for a single day, or $40 to $50 for two-day passes. Call 561-450-6357, or visit... More >>>
