Green spaces are seemingly lacking in our construction-driven society. High-rise condos and massive buildings are erected one after another, leaving nature by the wayside. Thankfully, there's a dedicated group of urban garden enthusiasts in Fort Lauderdale who have dreamt up Flagler Garden, a communal green space and educational facility to take root in artsy Flagler Village. Finally, ground will break at Flagler Garden, and building will begin. It took nearly two years of planning and sourcing funds to seed this dream project into a reality. To crown this milestone, the garden crew is throwing a shindig on Sunday and inviting the public for an afternoon of flowing apple-pie mimosas and live music. Attendees are encouraged to bring a container to the event for an earthy activity, a make-your-own minigarden. Sure, get those hands dirty between mimosas, folks. Speakers will lecture on green living and eco-friendly design and share how this future communal garden will be laid out. Along with refreshments, food trucks and local market vendors will be in attendance. The garden party gets under way at 11 a.m. Sunday and runs until 4 p.m. at 425 NE Third Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.
