The long, lazy days of summer vacation are nearly over, and students can get pumped for the new school year at the third annual Back 2 School Bash at Flamingo Gardens. Spend the final Saturday of summer vacation communing with nature before being locked in a classroom for the next nine months. Get your brain in gear early and learn the history of 60 acres of gardens with native Florida plant life. Stroll through a pioneer home, and flap through the free-flight aviary. Flamingo Gardens will bring the animals even closer with petting encounters available only for this special event. Also, jump in a bounce house, groove to live music, and dance with roaming peacocks. Food and merchandise proceeds will benefit the Children's Home Society of Florida, which will use the funds to purchase backpacks and school supplies for children in the program. Tickets cost $9 for adults and $5 for kids 4 to 11; children under 3 get in free. Narrated tram tours cost an additional fee. The Back 2 School Bash takes place this Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Flamingo Gardens, 3750 S. Flamingo Road in Davie. Visit flamingogardens.org, or call 954-473-2955.
Sat., Aug. 17, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., 2013
