It’s not a moment to be proud of, but on your last trip to the American Museum of Natural History, you sidelined the “suggested donation” admission by handing over your pocket lint and spare change to the attendee and darted directly to the Hall of Asian Mammals’ water buffalo diorama. And even with the guilt, it was beautiful.

When money is nonexistent, the museum is often the one reliable safe haven. This is especially true every third Thursday of the month at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale (One East Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). Patrons get in free to peruse exhibitions like the current, “Quilts of Gee’s Bend.” The BankAtlantic-sponsored night runs from 4-7 p.m., and if you feel like mingling, hang around for chit-chat, cocktails, and munchies with the Young Benefactors of the Museum of Art.
