If you've ever fought off insomnia by watching 4 a.m. infomercials (or an MSNBC special on the life of Mark Zuckerberg), you've likely experienced that bubbling gut reaction to someone else's seemingly silly but lucrative idea -- "Ugh, that's so simple... why didn't I think of that?!"
The thing is, you probably have thought of it; you just didn't know what the next step to seeing it through would be. Enter Geek Tank -- a reverse pitch networking event that pairs inventors of such things as SaaS products, gaming apps, software products, or social networking products with top investors for a night of idea-bouncing, helpful critiques, presentations, and firm handshakes. The evening offers a peek into the minds of investors with panelists like CrunchFire Ventures cofounder Steve Repetti and Early Stage Greentech Investments' Sami Shiro.
MIT South Florida and Miami Innovation Fund have teamed up to offer the winner (or winners) the opportunity to compete for a $50,000 prize to fund their dream.
GeekTank 2 will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Citrix Operational Headquarters at 851 W. Cypress Creek Road, Fort Lauderdale. General admission is $15, but tech startups and students get in for free. Call 305-403-2080, or visit mitforumfl.org.
