A New York City photographer and a British art dealer discuss the contours of the deco-style furniture piece on display. The maker of the piece, a Parisian, bargains with a gallery owner from Massachusetts, eager to purchase one of his glass sculptures. But they’re not at some high-brow cocktail party in Venice; they’re at the PalmBeach3 Contemporary/Photography/Art and Design Fair, where fine art connoisseurs and decorative design buffs browse, converse, and collect the latest artwork from around the globe. The fair first convened a year ago, bringing together three smaller fairs – PalmBeachContemporary (paintings, sculptures, videos, and installations), PalmBeachPhotography (classical and contemporary styles), and PalmBeachSOFA (sculptural objects and functional art). This adds up to roughly 100 galleries from North and South America, Europe, and Asia. And, to put a local spin on things, the fair is giving sufficient space to the Dreyfoos School of the Arts, whose alumni have their own featured exhibit. What’s that, Miami? You’re jealous?
