Back in the '70s, when someone tried to capitalize on the sport on these shores, your Fort Lauderdale Strikers were there to bring world-class action to the unsuspecting masses. Sure, the World Cup just ended, and there will be no Teófilo Cubillas, no Gerd Müller, no Gordon Banks; in short, no huge names who'd inspire loyalty and love among the brittle masses. But what is true is that our Strikers are in the middle of the NASL rankings right now; it could go either way, and the Scorpions are rapidly succeeding the Rowdies as a team to have a rivalry with. And how can you say no to that, sports fans? All we need is an excuse; all they need is 90 minutes -- you show up, they'll make it worth your while.
