In order for a music venue to be qualified as truly “kick-ass, dude,” it’s got to have a combination of characteristics that resemble Goldilocks' porridge: Not so big that it loses intimacy, not so small that you’re unintentionally swapping body fluids with the person next to you. A sound system that’s powerful enough to hit “11” when it counts, but not so loud that it feels like two bugs fornicating in your ear canal. An environment that’s got charm and character, but not so much character that you’re afraid you’ll catch something from the bathroom. In other words, it’s got to be just right – like City Limits (19 NE Third Ave., Delray Beach).

The club/concert hall must be doing a whole lot of something right, because tonight kicks off its One Year Anniversary Party. The shindig, running Wednesday through Saturday, December 1, will get started in style tonight courtesy of reggaelicious sounds from Deerfield’s own The Resolvers. But as anyone who’s thrown a party knows, tunes are only half the battle. The other half is good libations, and City Limits has that covered too. You’ll find 2-4-1 well drinks, $5 Absoluts, and $3 domestic beers and nightly shots, and since Wednesday is also Ladies Night, gals enjoy free drinks from 8 to 10 p.m. For more info on the anniversary events call 561-279-8222, or visit www.thehoneycomb.com.
