Every December, hundreds of artists converge on Wynwood in the weeks before Art Basel Miami Beach. With spray paint, a few bucks from building owners, and determination to display their brilliance, these artists transform the city of Miami's former garment district. In recent years, these masters and neophytes have created murals that have turned a slum into an art mecca where tourists swarm to photograph freshly painted walls.
These artworks have forged a separate identity for Wynwood, one with ties to both the established art world and graffiti culture.
