Join more than 500 runners and walkers around dawn and watch the sun rise above the sandy beaches of Fort Lauderdale as the Young Professionals for Covenant House hosts the fourth-annual Covenant House Florida 5K on A1A. The race to raise money for Covenant House Florida, serving runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth under 21, including teen parents and their babies, will begin at the world-famous Parrot Lounge and will head south on A1A to East Las Olas Boulevard. Along the route, you will be thanked for what you are doing when you run or walk by the Covenant House Florida Shelter and see their youths and young adults cheering you on. Cross the finish line back at the Parrot Lounge and relax at a postparty with drink specials and snack foods. Don’t miss the 5K fun at 7 a.m. Saturday at 911 Sunrise Lane in Fort Lauderdale. Registration by the day before costs $30 per individual and includes a T-shirt, or $40 per individual on race day. Register as a team and begin a fundraising page to raise money and awareness for the organization. Register online at active.com/running/fort-lauderdale-fl/4th-annual-covenant-house-5k-run-walk-2013.
