As a foodie, a vegetarian, and a bit of a boozehound, youve got it awfully rough. Sure, there are bars and restaurants where you can satisfy two of your most impassioned sensibilities, but rare is the joint where you can sate all three. Regular bars are out, unless you dont mind your drinks poured from plastic bottles and your apps born of some sludgy fryer. On the other end, lots of nice places are doing the small plate thing these days, but dear Lord youd think the seas were made of cheese and the land of pancetta, theres so much going around. Is it too much to ask for some vegan love? Something sensible to go with our drinks say a mock slider made of seitan and faux cheddar, fire-roasted artichokes with panko crumbs and garlic sauce, or rice paper spring rolls filled with Napa cabbage?
Consider this your wish granted, my dear leaf-eating friends: The haven for all things vegan, Sublime Restaurant (1431 North Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale), has started up a summer happy hour. Sit at Sublimes beautiful bar (made of recycled glass how eco!) Tuesday through Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and you can sip on specialty drinks like the Green Tea Martini made with Charbay vodka and Zen green tea liqueur, or the Asian Mary with organic vegetable juice and Wokka Saki, all at 2-4-1 prices. Plus, you can fill yourself on all-vegan selections from their appetizer menu. Its happy hour, but with a conscience. Call 954-539-9000, or visit www.sublimerestaurant.com.
