The Oscars. The Emmys. The Tonys. We are all familiar with the awards that celebrate the best in the entertainment business across the nation. But with so much talent and so many spectacular productions in South Florida, why look any further than the awards ceremony that’s in our own backyard? The Carbonell Awards, named after Manuel Carbonell, an internationally renowned sculptor who designed the first award in 1976, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Fans can applaud nominees and anticipate the winners from more than 35 shows from theaters from Coral Gables north to Jupiter. Nominations in theaters this year include 45 in Palm Beach County, 42 in Miami-Dade, and 13 in Broward County. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is located at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $25 in advance and $35 at the door. Call 954-462-0222, or visit browardcenter.org or carbonellawards.org.
