Nothing is more American than barbecue and good, ol'-fashioned competition. No one has ever achieved barbecue greatness by sitting around, taking handouts. If you're looking to watch some dramatic BBQ Pitmaster-type entertainment, look no further. The American Institute of Fine Wine South Florida and River Walk Fort Lauderdale are hosting AIWF's ninth-annual Culinary School BBQ Battle this Sunday. The battle, which invites five culinary schools to compete in barbecue brisket and side-dish competitions, takes place in Fort Lauderdale's Esplanade Park. Additional food, wine, beer, and spirits stations will be provided by a number of local restaurants and beverage companies. Online reservations are available until 11:59 p.m. Saturday, for $50 per person. Entrance is $60 per person at the door, space permitting. No cash will be accepted. Call 305-542-8742, or visit aiwfbbqbattle.com.
