Making his way from the confines of Gainesville, University of Florida's head football coach, Will Muschamp, is making an appearance in Fort Lauderdale for the highly anticipated "Gator Gathering." An event that happens only once every few years and one that hasn't been held since 2011, the fundraiser is hosted by the Broward County Gator Club and Gator Nation to provide academic scholarships for Broward County high school students attending UF. So if you've been dying to get an autograph from the coveted Muschamp or simply want to benefit the community through donations, come enjoy a barbecue dinner, select beverages, vendors, a raffle, a silent auction, and more. This year's event will present the 15 2011 Scholarship Award winners of $1,500. Show your Gator pride on Thursday at War Memorial Auditorium, located at 800 NE Eighth St. in Fort Lauderdale. Doors open at 5 p.m. Social/dinner is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The program starts at 6:30. Autographs are limited to the first 200 people. To purchase tickets in advance, visit blacktie-southflorida.com. Tickets cost $40 for members, $50 for nonmembers, and $25 for children ages 3 to 11. Tax-deductible sponsorship opportunities are available. Visit browardcountygatorclub.com, or call Elisa Stone at 954-574-6000.
