Indie film buffs may want to check out Julia, a 2008 flick in town for the week. Directed by French filmmaker Ericka Zonca, it stars Tilda Swinton, the Oscar-winning redhead actress, as Julia, a catastrophic alcoholic who racks up blackouts every night. At an AA meeting, she runs into a woman named Erica, who’s planning to kidnap her own son and demand a ransom from the wealthy grandfather. The woman asks Julia to participate for 50 grand. With no job, Julia accepts, and so begins a botched blackmail attempt and wild getaway with the boy to Mexico, where a car will go crashing through the border wall and gangs will get involved. By the end, Julia’s going to need a drink.

Julia shows at the today at 5:45 p.m. at Cinema Paradiso (503 SE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale). Tickets cost $9 or less. Call 954-525-3456, or visit fliff.com.
