Black Friday be damned! Shopping megaholidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday might seem like a good idea to your wallet, but what about to your local community? Put your dollars back into your downtown instead of up the corporate ladder. The trick is, it's not even that difficult. Black Friday, meet your match -- Small Business Saturday. An annual, locals-only holiday started by the smart people at American Express takes place the Saturday after Black Friday and encourages you to spend your dollars in town. Small Business Saturday is making its presence known in Fort Lauderdale this year with a little help from the Night Owl. No, not the insomniac you dated in college. The Night Owl is a massive market in a big ol' warehouse where all your local buying dreams come true. There will be more than 60 crafters, artists, local businesses, and other vendors on hand showing off their finest offerings. If you care about the community, skip camping outside Best Buy this year and give Night Owl a try. And spread the word too, because small business is here to stay. Night Owl Market Presents Snow Owl on Saturday from 5 to 11 p.m. at Fat Village (519 NW First Ave.). Admission is free, as is parking. Call 954-785-7475, or visit Facebook.com/FlaglerNOM.
Sat., Nov. 30, 5-11 p.m., 2013
