Also clamoring for attention during MoCA’s quinces celebration is Jack Pierson’s “Paradise Lights,” a huge Vegas marquee lit up in neon; and Dennis Oppenheim’s booming self-portrait, Attempt to Raise Hell, in which an effigy of the artist appears repeatedly banging his head against a large cast-iron bell, causing the unsuspecting to bounce out of their shoes.
Don’t miss “Open Process: New Work by Miami Artists” through which MoCA continues supporting a bumper crop of emerging local talent like Jessica Laurel Arias, Autumn Casey, Domingo Castillo, and Tatiana Vahan, who were set free in the museum’s archives for inspiration to create their own installations. “This exhibition provides an opportunity for us to really collaborate with a small group of artists and to concentrate on their needs,” says Ruba Katrib, MoCA’s associate curator. “I believe the process of working on this exhibition will be an incredible resource that the artists can refer to as they continue to develop their careers.” The museum is open Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday hours are from 1 to 9 p.m. and Sunday’s noon to 5 p.m. General admission is $5, seniors and students pay $3, while members get in free.
