OK, you live in South Florida -- maybe you're privileged? The privileged have the luxury of being art snobs -- maybe you're one of those folks who can leave Art Basel with actual artwork? But you live in Broward County. Maybe you're a patron-level museum member at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale (1 E. Las Olas Blvd.)? Why not? It only sets you back $500 and has its perks. Then your trip to Basel is a little different from those who hope their cars make it to Miami and then search the streets until they find free parking. For you, with the price tag of $40, you're privy to a special round-trip bus transportation to Art Basel, which you then enter for free. Then when you return to the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, you're welcomed with a wine reception with hors d'oeuvres. You get all the sneak peaks -- like catching the first look at the new wall painting by artist Arturo Herrera. Is patron status worth the ride to the annual art event on the beach that features artists such as Mr. Brainwash? If so, join the museum on Saturday: The "Art Trip to Art Basel" is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. To RSVP or get more information, contact Shelley Edwards at 954-262-0221 or [email protected].
