Many things about adulthood suck: You have to pay bills, you probably spend most of your waking time in a cubicle, and you most likely don’t get a summer break. While summers were always the best part of being a kid, stocking up on back-to-school supplies — like Trapper Keepers, multicolored push-up pens, and Ninja Turtle pencil bags — was a ridiculously exciting task. Aside from the loss of not experiencing these ’90s delights, some kids struggle to get basic school supplies. On Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., Young Professionals for Covenant House are hosting a Back to School Supply Drive to benefit homeless youth residents of the shelter. Anyone bringing $10 worth of new school supplies gets free admission, including two drinks and an appetizer. Tickets can be purchased online at $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers, or $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers at the door. American Social is located at 721 E. Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-764-7005, or visit tinyurl.com/YPBack2SchoolAmSoc for tickets.
