Not content simply to send ersatz Santas to bell you out of quarters at Christmastime, the Salvation Army Broward invites the fit and enthusiastic to compete in the Most Amazing Race to raise money for homeless people. Its a dash around Fort Lauderdale that pits teams against one another in a series of sinister physical puzzles and mental brain benders kind of like Die Hard: With a Vengeance, only with fewer explosions. Now, setting aside the inconvenient nomenclature of holding a scavenger-hunt-like event to benefit people who may actually survive by scavenging, this fundraiser gives go-getters a chance to raise a goodly amount of dough while getting in a goodly amount of jogging. This is how it works: Teams receive clues and other little race-day perks for raising money beforehand besides the $50 entry fee, all participants must hustle up an additional $100. The winners get a cool $1,000, which should quiet a lot of Santas this December. The race runs from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, beginning from the Galleria (2414 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). Check out salvationarmybroward.org, or call 954-712-2431.
