A Broward County bar tucked away in downtown Fort Lauderdale as close to the jailhouse as it can be without stomping on the Downtowners turf hosts a gothic dance party called Revel inside its walls the last Saturday of every month. Fortunately for those who crave something darker for Yuletide, this months enchanting soiree falls on Christmas night: Its going to be a Revel Classic Alternative Xmas Party. By darker, New Times means the music: 80s retro, new wave, EBM, gothic, industrial, and synth pop tunes; but even some classic alternative hits like Personal Jesus from Depeche Mode get woven into the cornucopia of gems. We mean the darkly lit room where bodies sway along the dance floor to Killing Jokes Love Like Blood. We mean the outfits that clad the vibrant dancers, the drinkers at the bar, the vixens who dance up high on the blocks next to the dance floor. Think latex and vinyl. Yes, this is a dance night. For the more poppy crowd, from 10 p.m. to midnight the score is comprised solely of indie rock and classic alternative hits such as Just Like Heaven from the Cure, and there are half-priced drinks. The admission is even cut in half (so its $5). You pay ten after midnight. Tonights Revel features DJs 16-Bit, Chris Halo, and Kaos and runs until 4 a.m. at Sea Monster (2 S. New River Drive East, Fort Lauderdale). Call 954-767-6200.
