The release of the year’s nouveau Beaujolais every third Thursday of November is cause for celebration in France, and for 2009, it is in Pompano Beach too. From 6 to 8 tonight, Bispo’s Cellar (2112 E. Atlantic Blvd., Pompano Beach) will be pouring a trio of the light, fruity, easy-drinking wines from the Beaujolais region (Georges DuBoeuf, Henry Fessy and Joseph Drouhin), along with another dozen or so Beaujolais from Brouilly, Fleurie and Julienas.

Though serious cork dorks regard nouveau Beaujolais pretty much the way rabid foodies do the Big Mac, given a light chill, the wine makes a quite acceptable complement to many dishes, which Bispo’s will highlight by serving a variety of hors d’oeuvres, including paté de foie gras, chocolate truffles and — with an eye to your Thanksgiving dinner — honey-baked turkey. And, really, a wine that typically costs less than $10 a bottle and can wash down the holiday bird is something to be thankful for. The cost is $25 and you’ll need to make reservations by calling Bispo’s at 954-788-8117. Visit bisposcellar.com.
