Paula Poundstone has it all -- ten cats (one of which speaks exclusively to her), a regular spot on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!, three adopted children, and a criminal record. Talk about a multi-tasker! When explaining how she acquired so many feline friends, Poundstone is quick to respond truthfully that the reason is threefold. First, she thought of ten good cat names. Second, Poundstone is lonely and only one of them will talk to her. Finally (are you ready?), she used to drink a lot. Like most in the comedy field, for every bright and cheery extreme, there is an equally dark, more painful opposite, which in Poundstone’s case led to her infamous drunk driving incident in 2001. Now recovered, but still wearing that damn early-´90s blazer, she performs her sobering shtick at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale). Tickets cost $35. Call 954-462-0222, or visit www.browardcenter.org.
Sat., March 11, 7 p.m.
