Turtles are amazing creatures: They look like dinosaurs, have been around for 215 million years, their sex is determined according to temperature (in some species), and they can hide their heads inside their shells whenever they want -- we wish we possessed that attribute. But as cool as these little sea-dwelling reptiles might be, the vast majority are endangered due to habitat destruction, entanglement in fishing gear, poaching, and slaughtering -- and lately, dumbass, sadistic teenagers burning them alive (idiots!). As part of its Dine for a Cause series sponsored by Transatlantic Wine & Spirits of Florida, Eddie & Ozzie's Table 26 is hosting a benefit for Loggerhead Marinelife Center on Monday.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., the restaurant is serving a four-course dinner with wine pairings and live music by Mike Mineo. For this installment, Quintessa Winery (known for its Bordeaux-style red Meritage blends) and Flowers Vineyards & Winery (a specialist in Chardonnay and pinot noir), both of which hail from California, are providing the vino for the evening. Sommeliers will be Skyping from afar to discuss the pairings. The cost to attend is $160 per person (excluding tax and gratuity). Founded more than 30 years ago, Loggerhead Marinelife Center aims to promote conservation of Florida's coastal ecosystems with a special focus on endangered sea turtles.
Eddie & Ozzie's Table 26 is located at 1700 S. Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach. Call 561-855-2660, or visit table26palmbeach.com.
