Walks, 5K's, fun runs, strolls: They are all a great way to not only help a cause that may be near and dear to you but to be a part of your community and start your day off right in a supportive environment. Often, you only see how these walks affect the world around you -- how the contribution you raised goes to help South Florida directly. But an upcoming walk is just one of many -- one of 150, to be precise. Meaning what you do in South Florida can contribute to a greater good for the entire country. The Take Steps walks are to support those affected by Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Supporters show up solo or with teams, changing the lives of thousands by raising funds for research. Take Steps knows not only how to change lives but how to have a good time. This walk includes festivities like live music, a kids' zone, and even free food and drinks. The event promises family fun with the chance to teach and practice the art of supporting others while stuffing your face with freebies and keeping the kids entertained. The Take Steps Walk is Saturday, with registration at 9 a.m. and the walk starting at 10:30 a.m. at Huizenga Plaza, located at 1 E. Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Set your own campaign goal. To register, visit cctakesteps.org/FortLauderdale, or call 561-218-2929.
