Of the newer breed of Florida metal rapidly establishing itself on the consciousness of the nation, none has been harder to rock than the unholy trinity of Shroud Eater, Hollow Leg, and Junior Bruce. Back in 2010, I had the pleasure of reviewing the latter's EP for our sister publication in Miami.

Now, in August 2012, I'm saddened to report that Junior Bruce's powerhouse drummer, Brett Tanner, forever immortalized as an audience member in an iconic GG Allin photograph, has passed away after a two-year, hard-fought battle with cancer. Cancer is a disease that has consumed many of my family members and dear friends.

Junior Bruce's take on downtempo, psychedelic-tinged metal has been a refreshing sound since their inception in 2007. These guys have been taking the suck out of Central Florida for a long time, and while I'm sure they'll soldier on, fans, family, and friends will miss Tanner's energetic drumming and steady beat.

While I'm not entirely sure as to which cancer research Mr. Tanner would have liked donations to go in his name, one that is close to my heart is Madison's Story. Every little bit helps in this ongoing struggle.
