Florida just hit paydirt -- at least for those among us who are Will Oldham enthusiasts. No longer will watching Old Joy and this hilarious Kanye West video have to suffice. See the man who took the album cover photo for Slint's Spiderland in the flesh, and in the beard.
The occasion? Oldham's as Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Emmett Kelly, who fronts the Cairo Gang, have mapped out a cross-state journey playing majestic psychedelic folk in record stores in Pensacola, Gainesville, St. Augustine, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami. As Drag City points out, "There is no concert after the in-store, there is no secret show to ferret out - just one show per city as free as free can be."
So, Broward and Palm Beach county residents should shake some action come Monday, May 30, and head to Radio-Active Records in Fort Lauderdale. (Sweat Records in Miami hosts on Tuesday, May 31, in case one show isn't enough.)
Thus far, Oldham and the Cairo Gang have teamed for three releases via Drag City: this year's Island Brothers 10-inch, the Midday 7-inch, and the entirely apt full-length, The Wonder Show of the World. These are record stores, so these are likely products that will be available at the merch table.
