Fillmore Miami welcomes two artists who manage to be widely underappreciated, despite residing squarely in the pop spotlight. Bruno Mars, baby-faced doo-wop reinterpreter, gets the fangirls for his sugary ballad "Just the Way You Are," but he goes largely unheralded for cowriting B.O.B.'s "Nothin' on You" and Cee-Lo's mammoth "Fuck You." And for the second half of the Hooligans in Wondaland Tour, Janelle Monae should just be the biggest R&B/pop star in the world and is certainly primed for glory with her dapper suit-and-pompadour aesthetic and gloriously catchy neosoul anthems "Tightrope" and "Cold War," off of last year's The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III). Make them happen more, America. Freakin' try harder.
