It's virtually impossible to speak of local nightlife and electronic dance music culture without touching on Space, Miami's quintessential megaclub. May 22 marks a decade since the downtown venue first opened its doors, putting the MIA on the international clubland map by providing superstars guest DJs the likes of Paul Van Dyk, Deep Dish, Paul Oakenfold, and Danny Tenaglia with an exuberant big-room venue matching those found in the nightlife mecca of Ibiza. Space's original 1990 incarnation was a one-story warehouse off of Biscayne Boulevard, launched by DJ-turned-nightclub impresario Louis Puig as an experiment in egalitarian, inclusive nightlife for discerning EDM lovers. In 2003 the club relocated to its current multi-story location, complete with an outdoor rooftop terrace for the enjoyment of many an afterhours freak -- the rest, as they say, is history.

The new millennium has seen the venue garner massive international recognition as a world-class clubbing institution, drawing thousands of die-hard revelers each weekend for DJ marathons lasting as much as 24 hours. In addition to the mainstream commercial house talent headlining regularly, from David Guetta to Eric Prydz, there has been a strong underground current in past years as well, represented most recently by the weekly Techno Loft parties and their high-profile cutting-edge techno bookings, e.g. Magda and Troy Pierce. Space's 10-year anniversary party on Saturday, May 22 should be nothing short of a musical extravaganza lasting well into the following day. With a lineup headed by German techno legend Martin Buttrich and the Techno Loft residents, along with Space veterans like Oscar G and Cedric Gervais, this party will represent a fine cross-section of the talent that has made this venue one of Miami's prime EDM spots.

Space 10 Year Anniversary with Martin Buttrich, Oscar G, Cerdric Gervais and More. Saturday, May 22, doors open at 11 p.m. 34 NE 11 St., downtown Miami.
