After nine years soldiering through offshoots of rock 'n' roll your teenaged sister loves — from slow emo to alternative to indie to something called "baroque pop" — Copeland has finally called it quits. As stated last October by the band, this spring's aptly titled Farewell Tour will be the last time these nice kids hit the road. But because the cash will be there, they have hinted at releasing one final album. Leaving behind handfuls of full-length albums and EPs as well as some rare and hard-to-find live recordings is a strong testament for any band, so it should be a bittersweet dismissal.
That's what a swan song is all about: a varied repertoire from their vast catalog and maybe even some surprises. Also onstage will be Person L (side project of the Starting Lines' Kenny Vasoli), emotionally sensitive collegiate Deas Vail's varied transmissions of life and decay, and I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody's Business, which we won't even try to deny or confront. Could get messy, but it should also be a memorable show.
