Last summer, one of the most risqué fashionistas in pop music, Elton John, told Sky News that if Jesus Christ were around today, he'd be down with gay marriage. "He was all about love and compassion... and that's what the church should be about," John reflected on J.C.

And all of Fort Lauderdale felt that kind of compassion and love the other night, precisely at 12:01 a.m. at the clerk's office in Fort Lauderdale, as same-sex marriage became a reality in Florida. And given that BroCo has the most gay couples like ever anywhere (thank you, Wilton Manors), there were plenty of reasons to celebrate.

And now South Florida has another excuse to throw its rainbow flags high in the air (and then catch 'em like color guard folk): Elton John and his band are heading to Miami this March 6.

John will be playing "All the Hits" on this tour, so bone up on all those b's in "Bennie and the Jets" and maybe find some new hugely oversized sunglasses, and hopefully a seeing-eye friend to assist you, as you blindly walk at dusk to the American Airlines Arena show. These'll hide the tears that stream down your face as you weep to "Candle in the Wind." We'll be right beside you with handkerchief in hand.

The man born Reginald Kenneth Dwight will be touting the 40th anniversary of his recently remastered album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. This will be his first Miami appearance in 12 years, though we in Fort Laudy caught him pounding the keys in 2012 at BankAtlantic. This time his band will include guitarist Davey Johnstone, bassist Matt Bissonette, percussionist John Mahon, drummer Nigel Olsson, and keyboardist Kim Bullard. Who knows when the next time Elton will be in town crooning, so make a sacrifice and get your tickets early.

Elton John and his Band, Friday, March 6, at American Airlines Arena, 601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 16, at 10 a.m. Call 800-745-3000, or visit Ticketmaster.com. Eight ticket limit per customer.
