Bunch first found fame as the frontman of Southern California post-hardcore band Sense Field. It was in a message posted to that band's Facebook page last week where former bandmate Rodney Sellars announced the news —
Hi everyone. I've got more sad news about Jon.
The coroner ruled his death a suicide.
Here's a statement from the family
'To all of you who love Jon, the family wants you to know the result of the coroner's autopsy report. The autopsy revealed high levels of over the counter sleeping pills, small amounts of alcohol, a small amount of methamphetamine, and heart disease due to high blood pressure. They are ruling his death a suicide. We will be making a statement later today.'
I'm so sad, don't really know what to say...
—Rodney
The Orange County Register reported that Bunch's car was found a half-mile from the front lawn where his body was recovered on the morning of February 1.
"Coroner investigators said they found several empty packs of sleeping pills inside the car, along with methamphetamine. Bunch died from an overdose of diphenhydramine, an antihistamine commonly found in sleeping pills."
A GofundMe memorial page has been set up that so far has raised $58,000 to cover the cost of Bunch's funeral and provide college funding for his surviving 12-year-old son. A benefit concert supporting the fund took place in Southern California this past March, and Philadelphia will host a second, planned for June 25. It will feature performances by Further Seems Forever and a reunited Sense Field with guest vocalists.
