Gen Art Hosts Screening of the new Runaways Biopic Tomorrow Night

​Fans of Joan Jett and Cherie Currie (and even fans of Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning) don't have to wait until Friday to get a peek at what it must have been like to be a part of one of the most infamous girl bands of the '70s. Tomorrow night, April 6, you can catch an early screening of The Runaways at the Regal South Beach at 8 p.m.

The event is hosted by Gen Art Miami, and includes an afterparty at Maxine's at the Catalina after the film, from 10 p.m. to midnight. A $15 admission charge includes the film and the fete, with complimentary drinks from Stella Artois and Ménage à Trois wine, with DJ sets from Michelle Leshem and Sasha Lauzon of SnM.  
 


As for the film, it's more a music-fueled story than a strict biopic, chronicling the teen girl group's start and rise to fame from 1975 to 1977. As you'd expect, the story's full of angst, raw energy, and lots of drama. The screenplay is based on band member Cherie Currie's memoir, Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway, and the film boasts Joan Jett herself as an executive producer and consultant, so you know the film will be true to "Cherry Bomb" form. The real question: Will some of the Runaways' one-time stage-sharers like Cheap Trick, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the Ramones, and Van Halen boast look-alike cameos in the film?
